The talk starts with the iconic death of Emily Wilding Davison under the hooves of the King's horse at the 1913 Epsom Derby.

There then follows a timeline of women's suffrage throughout the world and an outline of the subordinate role of women in British Edwardian society.

It continues with the establishment of the first societies advocating women's suffrage, the petitions to Parliament and the thwarted attempts to achieve political success followed by the beginning of the campaigns of violence and civil disobedience.

It covers the force feeding of hunger strikers and an examination of Emily Wilding Davison's motives.

There is a  brief bio of the main protagonists in the struggle for emancipation and how Estelle Sylvia Pankhurst founded a break-away movement in East London.

There is an analysis of the effect of the first World War including women's role in the war and the change of attitude towards women in general. It examines the establishment's fear of revolution as happened in Tsarist  Russia and in Germany and the Government's response with 'Homes Fit For Heroes' and limited female emancipation. The underlying reasons for this change of heart are discussed and the talk concludes with final success and equal rights with men.
