This is the second year running that Nacro Connecting Carmarthenshire Community Preventative Service has worked in collaboration with CarmDas to host the White Ribbon Event, raising awareness of abuse of women and girls, in Carmarthen Town Centre.
The men and boys gathered at Guild Hall Square and marched through the town behind a white ribbon day banner and placards. The march had representatives from all sectors of the community including Chair of the Council, Carmarthen Mayor, Police Crime Commissioner, the Deputy Chief Constable, leading so many men and boys from the Police Service, Fire service, local charities, organisations and most of the Nacro Staff from the Carmarthen Office were also there to support this important cause.
The men and boys joined the women at the Enterprise hub on St Catherine’s Walk and filled the venue to capacity with over 130 people. After some speeches and watching the launch of the docudrama from the Carmarthen Youth Council ‘Never Silence Violence’, we all signed the pledge book.
Robert Ramsaha-Southall from Nacro Connecting Carmarthenshire said ‘It was awe inspiring and it was quite humbling to be part of that experience where men and boys were standing up to pledge ‘ Never, use, excuse or remain silent about violence against women and girls! “Men should take action and confront the attitudes and behaviours that contribute to violence against women and girls such as sexism and misogyny. Men must hold themselves and others accountable for their actions, fostering respect for women and girls. Events such as these is a must to raise awareness of the issues Women and Girls face on a daily basis. It has been a privilege to be involved again this year”
