The Early Doors project helps people in Carmarthenshire get the housing support they need before things reach crisis point. It focuses on how having a safe, suitable home improves health and wellbeing. Every year, over 1,000 people face housing problems that can lead to stress, poor health, relationship issues, and even risk of harm. Early Doors works to step in early and stop these issues from getting worse.
Key principles
-
Act early: Reach out to people before problems grow.
-
Be part of the community: Stay visible and connected so people feel confident and prepared.
-
Work together: Join forces with local partners to have the biggest impact.
-
Try new ideas: Remove barriers and test better ways of doing things.
Project goals
-
Help more people get support early, before they qualify for formal housing duties.
-
Make sure twice as many people know about the services available.
-
Help people feel stronger, more confident, and more in control.
-
Build good working relationships with partners.
-
Show that the project is forward-thinking and solution-focused.
The project looks at what happens when people are supported to recognise their strengths, focus on what matters to them, plan ahead, understand what motivates them, and work towards their goals.
Overall, Early Doors aims to help local people stay well, become more independent, and reduce the need for mental health, substance misuse, and other statutory services by tackling problems early and building stronger, healthier communities.
